Again another awesome article, even though we have never experienced the symptoms you mentioned in our failovers.

For our configuration we have a Security Master (32) and Slave (31) on the primary node and a Slave (32) and Slave 2 (31) on the secondary node.

When we fail over to a secondary node, the Master will move across and appear as a Master (Failedover) (32), replacing the Slave (32) that was running on that node.

On the Master node, the sec_user and security.jnl files are on a /secfiles file system that moves across to the secondary node in a failover. As part of the process, a symbolic link is set up on the secondary node to point to /secfiles, including the security.jnl file.

I am curious about the security.jnl file. Is it required to only exist on the node that is running the Security Master?

It sounds like you have some custom failover scripts for your Security Master, Roland. The security.jnl is only needed by the Security Master, so it is only needed on the node where the Master is running. The .jnl file is needed as a way to ensure updates complete even if the Master crashes.

I'm happy to hear you enjoy the blogs.
